Chris McCandless Project

My experiment was to walk a different way to class without telling my friends. People reacted to this just by simply saying how they knew I was doing the Chris McCandless project. During the expirement I felt lonely/awkward in the halls, because I could not talk to my friends and I was just walking by myself, just hoping that I could find the room and get there one time without taking my usual rout. I was surprised on my reaction, because I did not realize how different it is to walk to class not able to talk to my friends. I think I am not "free" to conform from this. I believe that not telling ANYBODY about this is completely unfair to them, for they have done nothing bad to me. They deserve to know why I'm doing this.

Chris McCandless Quote

"Happiness only real when shared."
- Chris McCandless

I chose this quote because I really believe in this. Somebody can say they have happiness, but not really mean it. They might say they have happiness to just fit in, or to make others comfortable when they are around himself/herself.

This quite relates to me, because I truly live by this. When I am truly happy, I share it with others. Not just tell others that I'm happy, but prove hat im happy. Ways that I share my happiness is just doing simple tasks such as giving compliments and helping around the house.

I live my life by this quote. Whenever I have happiness, I always love to share it with others. I don't share it by bragging about my happiness, but by doing nice things for others to bring them happiness.

Tryouts
Luke woke up to the sound of constant boops. The clock looked at him with 6:45 am on its face. Luke walked into the bathroom, showered up, brushed his teeth, and then put his clothes on. Today would seem to be a typical day for Luke, or for even anybody. Today marked the day for Goya High School basketball tryouts. The only thing on Luke's mind for the last two months. Luke proceeded down his staircase, and walked into the kitchen to find his mother ready to take him to school. Luke typically did not have enough time to eat breakfast, so he was not surprised when his mother came to hug him and said;
"Good morning dear. Put your shoes on and grab a granola bar, or else we will be late to school."
"Good morning. I love you to," said Luke in a groggy tone. Luke and his mother headed to school, and arrived right on time.
"Good luck at basketball tryouts this afternoon. You'll do great. I will pick you up at about 5:30. Have a great day at school and I love you," said Luke's mother as luke was getting his stuff out if the car.
"Have a great day at work and I'll see you then. Love you," remarked Luke in a cheerful voice as he gave a wave to his mother on his way to the school door.

But the only problem was, Luke was not in a cheerful mood. He was in a stressful mood. He was in a stressful mood, because many kids doubted him. This was something that his mother didn’t know. Didn’t know that he was “unpopular” and a joke to everybody. She did know that he’s small, but athletic. Luke went through a typical day at school, which was going through all the classes trying to avoid comments toward him from the jocks such as “hey shrimp” or “thanks for volunteering to be our basketball for tryouts.” Luke was starting to get better at ignoring them. Before he knew it, the bell gave a ring four times.
Luke headed to to the locker room. As he was putting on shoes with high tops and a big swoosh on each side, he heard others whispering and laughing in his direction. After all of the negative comments, nobody expected Luke to show up. The coach talked to all of the players who were hoping to make the team, explaining how tryouts were going to work. Luke worked hard all of tryouts, and impressed even the jocks. A couple of people gave him compliments. The coaches noticed him. Luke knew this was a good sign. To end the tryouts, they do scrimmages, to see how the players do in a game situation. 7 seconds left of tryouts, Luke steals the ball from the point guard and dribbles up the court. A lay up ties the scrimmage, shooting from beyond the ark wins it. Two of the best players call for the ball, but Luke ignores them, focusing on the fast break. It looked clear that he was going to go for the layup, but somebody was catching him. Both were going as fast as a cheetah. All eyes on Luke, as he makes a jump stop right before the three-point line. Still people calling his name, he watches the man who was going to catch up to him fly by. Luke takes an open shot, 0.8 seconds said the scoreboard upon his release of the ball. A loud swish filed up the court right after a loud buzz. Luke looked over at the head coach, only

to see his lips go from ear to ear. Next thing he knew his teammates, were all over him. Even the jocks. It was clear to everybody, there was a new star for the school team.

Summer Reading Choice Book: Timed Writing Revision

I read the book Son of God. The authors Roma Downey and Mark Burnett wrote this book to tell the story of Jesus Christ when he walked the Earth. They are telling this story to teach people how important Jesus Christ is. Also they teach us why he's so important, what he does that is so great, and why he does everything that he does.

The authors of this book explain what Jesus does that makes him so great. One example from the book is when Peter is just coming onto shore, after being frustrated from not catching any fish. Jesus, the Son of God, comes and tells Peter to put the boat back out and into deeper waters to catch fish. Peter repeatedly tells Jesus that there are no fish to catch today. Jesus tells Peter to trust in him. After being agitated with Jesus, this stranger to Peter, trusts and listens to Jesus. Moments later, the nets start to fill up with fish and the nets start to rip because of the large amount of fish being caught. Peter turns and looks at Jesus. Stunned, is a word you could use to describe Peter. This is truly Jesus's first follower. This example supports how great Jesus is, and what he can do for somebody is truly beyond imagination.

Jesus is a very humble man and does good for anything or anybody. A question you may ask is: Why does Jesus do such great things for people he doesn't even know? The authors of this book retell just that. An example from the book is when Jesus tells his disciples (followers) to tear down the temple of Jerusalem, and that he will build a greater one in 3 days. Jesus tells his disciples to do very odd things, but promises them eternal life in The Kingdom of God (heaven). This example shows why Jesus does what he does. He does these amazing things because he wants all of his followers to have eternal life!

Last, but not least, the authors tell why Jesus is so important. Some examples from the story are: When Jesus saves Peter by giving him the ability to walk on water, when Jesus heals a woman that is 'possessed by demons,' and when Jesus brings somebody who has been dead for 3 days to life. These examples support the idea of why Jesus is so important, because any hero is important. Jesus is my hero.

To wrap everything up, the authors of this book retell the story of Jesus Christ. They explain why he's so important, what he does that is very important, and why he does what he does.

Metacognitive Blog: And Then There Were None

From my first draft to my last draft, I corrected a few grammar errors and changed all of my tenses to present tense. The form of support that I used and that helped me was the peer review checklist. I used the checklist to make sure I had all of the content needed. Having a guideline sheet/checklist will help me greatly through the year to improve my writing skills and ability. I think as a writer this year, I have room to grow in using more descriptive words. An example would be instead of saying the teacher yelled at the class, I could say the teacher roared at the class.
